Mission Statement and History

According to its constitution the Society supports the advancement in the field of milk science and intensifies the application-oriented exchange of knowledge between scientific institutions and the industry.

Since its foundation in the year 1965 it has convened in a bi-annual mode more than 20 Milk conferences and meetings of its members.

Since the Milk conference 2009 in Vienna the former “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Milchwissenschaft e.V.” has been internationalized into “Society of Milk Science (SMS)”, to pursue its purpose on a global scale.

Partnerships and contacts are established between universities and other scientific institutions and companies in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. The SMS is open for membership from any country.
